I am trying to prefect my knitted bear making so this week I made 2 more bears.

Using the same pattern and same needle size but adding a strand of eyelash yarn to one here is what I came up with.

Despite the fact the bears are knitted, you will notice this one is doing come crochet. I think she is planning to make clothes for her buddy

Hubby tells me both styles of bear have their place, but I am partial to the furry ones.

So, tell me, which do you prefer?

I got this idea that the clutter in my craft supplies was making it more and more difficult to work on any projects. So I started to “organize”.

I have a bad case of KCADD (knit crochet attention deficit disorder). So when this is at its worse I pull out my craft supplies to sort them and put into an organized fashion but end up taking a handful of things to my favorite chair and getting started on yet another project.

It sounds bad, but I have completed , yes I said completed, a few more projects! (I won’t mention the ones I did not complete)

These teddy bears got lovely sweaters and hats to keep them warm.

This infant sweater is ready to go.

This infant sweater and hat make a lovely set.

Cabbage Patch (I crocheted the doll about 25 years ago) got a new hat.

My sister-in-law is getting a couple of new dishcloths,

and you already saw in a previous posting, my granddaughter has a new castle tote with finger puppets: knight, princess and dragon. I am starting on more of these.

and now, back to my regularly scheduled organization party. Wonder what will come out of this attempt

I have been trying to get organized. Trying being the key word here.

I pull out everything so I can sort them into smaller groups, then eliminate from there.

Instead I pull out everything and get excited over what I found and start another project!

Here are a couple of things that I’ve done with the stash.

This baby afghan, sweater, hat and booties used up some of it. I added a strand of Yarn Bee “peach fuzz” to the blanket. It is extra soft. I don’t have any babies to try the outfit on.

I am trying to dress this bear to resemble Betty Boop.

Made the roll brim hat for a little girl, then modified it to make a matching one for the teddy bear. The pattern for the child’s roll brim may be found at online at Suzies Stuff.

Crocheted myself a mop rag for my Swifter Mop. Hmm, maybe I need to use it today.

And now….. back to my irregularly schedule organization party.

Thanks for looking.

I was challenged recently to make a teddy bear resemble the comic character of Betty Boop.

I crocheted her hair first using a loop stitch. That didn’t work so I tried freeforming a flat piece, and then made long needlepoint type stitches. I added a few loops for spit curls.

Her dress is knitted and the garter belt is crocheted. I am working on some white panties now.

After several tries, I came up with this.

What do you think? Am I getting close ? What would you change?

Set the margins to .5” all the way around. This is my preference, I then place printed patterns in a plastic sheet protector.

Create a footer. To be sure I add the footer I create one I will overwrite with the words reminding me to add the website where the pattern was found and I also set my preferred pagination “Page # of # ”

Create an insert point for the document. I made a reference which I will overwrite when I paste the new information.

Save the file as a template or another document.

Now to begin the process and use this template.

Open the online printable version of the pattern.

With your mouse, highlight the entire pattern. This can be done 2 ways: 1. Click CONTROL plus the A key at the same time OR
2. Place the mouse at the beginning at the pattern and holding down the Left Mouse Button move to the end of the pattern. Release the mouse button, click CONTROL plus the A key at the same time.
Click CONTROL plus the C key at the same time. This copies the highlighted information to the computers clipboard.

Open the Digital Pattern Template.

Find the insertion point at the beginning of the document and press CTRL and V at the same time. This will paste the information from your clipboard to the document.

Go back to the document and highlight (CTRL+A) and copy (CTRL+C) the webpage.

Return to the document. Select “insert” and “footer” and “edit footer”.
Highlight the note to insert the web info and paste (CTRL+V) the webpage address. If necessary, space to move the page numbering over.

Close the footer.

Look over your pattern. Did any pictures not paste that were on the page? Go back to the webpage, right click on the picture, select copy, return to document, find the position and paste. You may set the location and text wrapping my clicking on the picture and utilizing the picture format feature. I like to use right top align with text. This then allows me to move the picture down a little if desired.

Look over the pattern. Add/remove line spacing or change text size as desired. I do this to cut down the number of pages to the best possible. Example 1: if only 3 lines extend onto page 3, I will try to cut blank lines to make it 2 pages. Example 2: if direction for a row are split on two pages I will adjust so they are one page by adding or deleting blank lines. This allows me to read an entire row without page flipping.

When complete, save the file as you desire. I have the PDF add-in for Word 2007 so I save my completed file as PDF.

NOTE: PLEASE HONOR COPYRIGHT ON ALL PATTERNS. BE SURE TO INCLUDE THIS INFORMATION ON YOUR PATTERN.

How to Crochet a Cat Hat

from wikiHow – The How to Manual That You Can Edit
With these instructions, you can crochet a charming hat for your kitty. You’ll probably spend a lot more time making this hat than your cat will spend wearing it (unless your cat likes playing dress-up, or is highly tolerant!), but it’s still a fun, easy project for a beginning crocheter (and avid cat lover). To follow these steps, you’ll need to understand crochet patterns.

Steps

Make a slip knot, and crochet 4 Ch (Chains); Slip stitch in first ch made. This will make your ring that you’ll crochet into.

Crochet 7 sc (single crochet) into the ring, use slip stitch to join sc into first sc made: 7 sc.

Ch 2, work first hdc (half double crochet) in same stitch as the ch 2; work 2 hdc in each stitch around in circle; Slip stitch in first hdc made: 14 hdc.

Ch 3, dc (double crochet) in same stitch as ch 3, 2 dc in each stitch around, slip stitch in first dc made: 28 dc.

Ch 1, 8 sc in circle, ch 13, skip 4 stitches, re-attach using slip stitch. (This will create the first ear hole.) sc 10 more stitches in circle, ch 13, skip 4 stitches, re-attach using slip stitch, sc 3 more stitches, slip stitch in first sc made. By now your hat should start to curve a little bit, which is what you want.

Ch 1, 7 sc in circle. Note: You will be working into the ‘ear hole’ now, so you will be working in the space under it, but it’s basically like working a normal stitch. 16 sc in the ‘hole’, sc in in each stitch until you hit the next ear hole, 16 sc in hole, 3 sc, slip stitch in first sc made; cut yarn and tie off. Weave in yarn ends with yarn needle.Alternate explanation:Ch 1, sc in next 7 sts.16 sc around ch of 13.Sc in each st up to next ch.16 sc around ch of 13.Sc in next 3 sts, slst in 1st sc made.

In Other Words

ch 4, slip stitch to first ch to form a ring.

ch 1, 7sc in ring, join with sl st to first sc. (7sc)

ch 2 ( this will be the first hdc) hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st around, join with sl st in top of ch 2. (14 hdc)

ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in ea st around, Sl st in top of ch 3. (28 dc)

ch1, sc in same st and in next 7 dc, ch 13, skip 4 dc, sl st in next dc, sc in next 10 dc, ch 13, sk 4, sl st in next dc, sc in next 3 dc, sl st in first sc.

ch1, sc in same st and next 6 sts, 16 sc in ch 13 loop, sc in ea st around till next loop, 16 sc in ch 13 loop, sc in last 3 sts. Sl st in first sc. Fo weave in ends

Tips

You can make a chin strap but this is only for the most patient and mellow of cats, and definitely not recommended if there are children who’ll be trying to put this hat on the cat. Cut a 6 inch piece of yarn, and tie it onto the middle of the ear hole, try the hat onto your kitty to determine how long the chin strap should be, hold the spot and cut off the extra yarn, but leave an inch so you have room to tie it loosely. If the cat is clearly stressed, tying the hat on with a chin strap is not a good idea–it’s rather cruel!

I have a teddy bear addiction that surpasses my knit/crochet addiction. Oh, don’t worry, I don’t suffer. I enjoy every minute of it.

Unfortunately this house is not big enough to support both habits. When hubby and I moved to this smaller home 3 years I brought along many boxes of teddy bears. Unfortunately many are still boxed so I am donating many to loving homes. I just packed up my first box to send to a friend to share with military families.

Reducing my teddy bear supply, however, does not reduce my love and desire for them. So this free pattern I found at “Becky’s Touch of Crochet” to make a teddy bear lapel pin is just right. It doesn’t take up much room and I can wear it near my heart.

If you’d like to crochet one, grab a hook and some scrap yarn and check it out.
