Scarf and Matching Headband

I was playing with some pattern ideas recently, preparing for a new knitting Bible Study I am going to be teaching. I wanted something easy that a student could practice increase and decrease stitches on.   I started practicing knitting on the bias and came up with this.

This was knitted using “Red Heart Light and Lofty” yarn. It is so soft to the touch and because of the bulkiness is heavy and feels warm around the neck.

I started the scarf on size 10 1/2 needles and cast on 15 stitches.  You can adjust to any size needle or change the number of stitches you cast on to meet your personal needs or preferences.

Row 1: Inc 1  K across to last 3 stitches  K2 tog  K1

Row 2: K across

Repeat pattern until piece measures 62 inches or your desired length, ending with Row 1 in pattern.

BO with Knit stitch.

Then I wanted to cover my ears so I  played with yarn to make a headband. With size 10 1/2 needles I cast on 3 stitches.

Row 1: Inc 1, K across

Repeat row 1 until 9 stitches

Knit each row of 9 stitches until pieces measures 18″ (or length of your needs to cover just below the ears)

Next row: K1  K2tog  K across

Repeat this row until only 3 stitches remain

BO, weave in yarn ends

Attache a small piece of elastic to each end. Make the piece small enough to hold the headband tightly to your head and across your ears.

It may be in the 100 degree range today, but in just a few short months you’ll be needing these. So get started on yours now, then make a few extra as Christmas gifts !!!
