From Wedding Gown to Christening Gown

My daughter was torn over what to do with her wedding dress. She could spend several hundred dollars to have it preserved, but then what? Just let it sit in a box in the closet?

She took her veil and placed it a large picture frame. She added her wedding announcement and some wedding pictures on top in a collage form and made a beautiful wedding display.

So decided on a way to display her gown.  I took her wedding gown and Simplicity Pattern 5813. Because her dress was in panels there was no section that allowed for the christening dress to be cut from it. Instead I was able to use the slip pattern and cut through the dress and lining and made the slip into a beautiful christening gown. Her favorite part of the dress was the gold lace flowers so I cut several of those and place them diagonally across the front and added a couple on the back.  I made the jacket from the pattern and covered the front panels with a section of the lace and netting.

Now she will display the dress in a collage fashion just like the veil.  An excellent way to preserve wonderful memories.
